Late Night Snackage, Paleo-Style

So I'm in my apartment in Madison, and its probably 11:30pm. I'm up, just killing some time before I call it a night around 1 or so, and I realized that I was starving. Unfortunately for me, tomorrow is grocery shopping day, meaning that the fridge and pantry are completely devoid of anything even remotely resembling a midnight snack.

Lucky for me, there's an Open Pantry a block down the road from my apartment, so my roommate and I wandered over there to see what goodies we could find. I decided on the way to challenge myself and see how just Paleo-friendly I could keep my purchases. Here is what I cam back with...

• Craisins
• pack of trail mix (assorted nuts, dried fruits, and a little bit of chocolate)
• garden salad packed with jalapenos and pickles

I was very tempted to go after some of the beef jerky, but after realizing that I could barely afford their smallest package, I decided against it. Overall, if you ignore the sugar that's been packed into the craisins and the chocolate in the trail mix, I think I came out solidly semi-Paleo.



To be quite honest though, eating 100% Paleo off of what you can find in your standard gas station would be a bit of a challenge, whether you're jonesing for a late-night snack or road tripping across the country. The easiest way to go about sticking to your Paleo guns would be to invest in some good tupperware, plan ahead, and pack snacks you've either made yourself or have bought elsewhere and know are Paleo-friendly.
