Big news, WiscFitters! Most of the student org paperwork is all finished up. All we have to do is go through and make our final revisions, and we'll be good to go. Though it's hardly anything shocking or new to y'all, here's a little taste of what we have so far. Any comments you can/want to provide are more than welcome...
The WiscFit Mission Statement
"WiscFit is a completely non-profit, student-led group here at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The pursuits of elite levels of fitness, increased health, and general physical wellness are WiscFit's sole reasons for existence. In these pursuits, we will attempt to achieve several goals, including:
1) The promotion of CrossFit training and methodologies on campus.
2) Creating a CrossFit community at UW through fitness advice and group workouts.
3) Helping to address the need for new recreational facilities and equipment on campus.
To achieve these goals, we will follow the lead of the thousands of other CrossFit affiliates around the world. Every day, we will post a workout of the day ("WOD") on our website that will be performed by members of CFW at one of the many facilities around campus. These group workouts, led by a CrossFit-certified student trainer, are wickedly efficient at creating a community. The shared experience felt by each member of suffering together through the same WOD will foster and grow our organization on a very personal level.
We also intend to set up different fitness-related events on campus. Such events would have two main goals: to promote both CrossFit and general health, and to generate funds for both WiscFit and other local and national organizations. An example of one of these events currently put on by the CrossFit community is the Fight Gone Bad fundraiser (http://www.fgb5.org/), which benefits organizations such as the Wounded Warriors Project and Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong Foundation. By setting up and participating in events that benefit others, the WiscFit community would grow into much more than simply a collection of like-minded fitness enthusiasts."
Thoughts, anyone? Post 'em up to comments, or send them to the house email account (wiscfit@gmail.com).
