Literacy Network Run/Walk

A little while back, my friend/co-worker brought up the Literacy Network Run/Walk. She volunteers with the Literacy Network of Madison, and is trying to gather support for the event.

I know I'm going to enter it, and if you aren't doing anything on October 3rd, you all should think about entering it, too. If nothing else, it's a great way to kill off one of those pesky 5k workouts that occasionally find their way into the WiscFit programming. And it's for a good cause. And you get a free* t-shirt out of the deal. Here's the down'n'dirty of it all:

You're able to sign up for either the 5K or the 10K. Once I find out who's all interested, we'll decide which one we want to go ahead and sign up for.
When: Sunday, October 3rd, 2010, 10:30am
Where: The race starts at the corner of Gorham and State. The actual race itself will take you through the UW campus, down the lakeshore path to just before the Nat, and back again.
Price: $20 per person. If I get confirmations from 4 other people, we can officially form our own WiscFit team. How cool would that be?!? If that happens, we might even make our own t-shirts...
Why: (From their website) "The Literacy Network of Madison serves primarily low income adults and families in need of literacy services by offering programs specifically tailored to the needs, goals, and different learning styles of the individual students... All programs are free of charge. Every year, our learners achieve life goals through literacy, such as: reading to children; reading a newspaper; talking to their child's teacher; filling out job applications; developing a resume; entering training programs; improving basic skills to move into a GED program." If that isn't a good cause, then I don't know what one is...
What do I get out of it?: Besides the satisfaction of knowing that you did your good deed for humanity on October 3rd by helping raise money and awareness for the Literacy Network of Madison, you'll also get a t-shirt out of the deal. And, perhaps most important of all, you'll find out exactly what your current 5K time is!

So, having officially given you enough information on this event, all I need now is a list of people who are/potentially might be interested in running this thing. Shoot me an email, give me a call, send me a text, leave a comment in the comments section... I don't really care how you inform me. What matters is that we have a little bit of turnout for this thing.

Please direct any questions/comments/concerns you may have to the comments section. I'll do my best to answer/reply/soothe them in a timely manner.

About a week back, I put a post up on here about dedicated WiscFitter and all-around badass Eric Beyer. You know... the one in Turkey right now. He's got a travel blog up, outlining all of his thoughts, impressions, and experiences while he's abroad. If you know him, or even if you don't, check it out. He's got an interesting story unfolding over there in Bursa... And for anyone wondering, there's now a permanent link to his blog on the right-hand side of the page.

And Eric... we're still waiting on some of these awesome workout pics with the Turkish landscape in the background. No pressure or anything, but the sooner you can find a place with a scenic Bursa backdrop to bust out some pull-ups and/or burpees and/or burpee pull-ups, the better.
