Rings

Gymnastics rings are an extremely effective fitness tool that not a lot of people have had exposure to in their workouts. There are dozens of exercises that, when taken from their normal variation and put on the rings, become much, much more difficult.

A perfect example of this would be the push-up (check out the ring push-ups video below). When performed on the ground, there are several different styles you can choose from (normal, keeping the hands narrow, diamond, clapping, chest-touches, staggered stance, etc.), all of which are all difficult to do on their own.

When you do those same exercises on a set of rings, the intensity and difficulty factors shoot through the roof. The reason for this? You're moving from a stable surface (the ground) to an unstable, dynamic plane (the rings). Once you're on the rings, you not only have to worry about the exercise you're doing, but also about stabilizing your body The first time you jump up into the top of a dip on the rings, you realize just how much more difficult that frictionless plane can make things.

Here's a few of the most common rings exercises that you could see coming up in the workout programming...

  1. Weston feels that a disclaimer is necessary.

This being that before completing this WOD, Weston and Ted did p90x.
Also, after this WOD, Weston and Ted did p90x.

My two cents: I was not pushing myself enough in the press and plan to surpass 130 at the next given opportunity.

  2. 1) Ted did 21.5 I believe on the row
    2) Donny has band 3:45-5:30 4 days a week + game days... not an excuse ;)

  3. I don't think he meant it so much as an excuse as additional information.

Does the band lift weights now? :P
